Zaanse Schans by boat: visiting the windmills from the water

The best view is from the Zaan

The windmills of Zaanse Schans face the water. From the bank you stand right beneath them; from the boat you see the whole row in one frame, with the green houses in front.

How it works

1. Board at the jetty by the terrace of Boutique Hotel Zaandijk, Lagedijk 32.
2. Sail for 30 minutes on a classic sloop, past the windmills and along the Zaan.
3. A local skipper tells you about the region along the way.

After the cruise it's a few minutes' walk across the bridge to Zaanse Schans. See the windmills from the water first, then up close.
